Return from Hiatus
I can't believe I haven't written on here in more than a year. I'd say it's time to start that up again, wouldn't you?

I Regret to Inform You
So it's been not the greatest of weeks. I've been told that I should just tell people this and get it over with, so I will. My Nana passed away a week ago Friday. We all kinda knew it was coming, and I got to see her one last time in February when I went to Ontario for Reading Week. I wasn't actually that close to her, which I think is one of the worst parts. She was one of the nicest people you could ever meet.
The real problem is that this is bringing up some things I'd rather not remember. My parents flew out to Ontario for the funeral and I stayed home to work and study. Unfortunately this left me with way too much time on my own. Not that there's really anything anyone can do about that right now, seeing as everyone, including me, still has a week of exams left.
Just so this isn't entirely depressing, there is some good news. I have 2 summer jobs now, the Population Research Lab one part-time, and I got the Good Samaritan job I applied for. It's casual hours, whatever that means, but it pays almost twice what I earned there last summer, and I'll be doing almost entirely the same tasks. Who can argue with that?
Also, Bev has gotten into East Campus Village, and because of some hilarious error they made, I have a spot reserved in her appartment for September, and Dan has a spot in the one across the hall. That really worked out a whole lot better than any of us were expecting I think, but I'm just glad to have neverending res parties to look forward to in 4 months.
So for now it's back to cramming, and on May 7 I start my spring course. If nothing else, this summer should fly by. Let's hope, shall we?

Success!
Somebody hired me! Somebody I turned down 2 months ago! The world makes sense once again.
The Populations Research Lab has given me a job as a telephone interviewer. Prolly not that much with the super funtimes but hey, it's money, it's at the U of A, and it's actually related to my field of interest. It's gonna be a little tricky to schedule around classes, karate, and badminton while I'm still in school fulltime but that's only for 2 more weeks. After that, I'm scheduled to take soc of aging in spring, and maybe I'll take on another job to help tide me over parttime. It's gonna be a busy summer, but I'm feeling a little better now, knowing I'm not likely to starve anytime soon. Bonus!

Freaking Out
Holy crap is my brain ever melting. Last week's grotesque amounts of assignments is over, thank God, but this week has delivered lovely new kinds of stress. I've recently been informed that I'm prolly gonna have to take a spring course at some point, and possibly this year if I want to graduate next June. Also, my populations prof has told me that I should try to get a job with the populations research lab, which just happens to be exactly the job I turned down at the beginning of this semester. So currently I'm contemplating taking a spring course and working 2 jobs simultaneously. And trying to convince myself I have a chance of getting some form of housing next year. Oh, and I somehow managed to lose the antenna on my cell phone. While it was in my pocket. How does that even happen?
As if that weren't enough, Grampa has decided to move into a nursing home and Nana is still not doing well in the hospital. My parents are freaking out and John is upset about something and HOLY CRAP WHY DOES EVERYTHING HAPPEN AT ONCE?

Don't Ask Me What That Means
Today I finally wrote my last midterm. Damn that felt good to be done with. Now I am perfecting the art of procrastination, as I should be reading 62 pages of Freud but really, really can't be arsed to do it. For a guy who talks about sex all the time, you'd think he'd be way more interesting. But then, I should know by know that articles in theoretical soc classes are never interesting. Even friggin the History of Sexuality from last semester. Two words: False. Advertising.
Anyway, so Friday I decided to get creative and had John over for fondue. Neither of us know how to fondue, but nothing will stop us hellz no. There were no burn incidents! Or food poisoning. So it was a success.
Saturday night was Gong Show Night because certain people could not get their act together, and so poor Caitlyn had to wait around 5 hours before we told her certain people were not showing up. So instead we went for ice cream until Dairy Queen kicked us out, and then to a frozen pond and playground, whereupon we thought a man was a ghost dog. Is whereupon a word? I care not. Then the three of us, John included, headed on down to my place to read Cosmo. He did the quizzes and the verdict is in, he's a cocky man-handler. Don't ask me what that means. In conclusion, weekend = successful. Hardcore.

The Whole Fan-Damly
Well that was a dandy week of reading, now wasn't it? I went to see my family in Ontario, which was long overdue. First we were off to Sarnia to see where Mom grew up and visit her huge side of the family: Aunt Ruby, Uncle Mike, 4 cousins and their 3 spouses, their 7 kids under 6, and Tante Betty, a cousin of my Mom's, randomly thrown in for good measure. I was really too busy to take many pics, but when I have time (ie in like 3 months, probably) I'll put the few I did take up on Facebook.
After that, it was off to Toronto to pick up Dad's sister, Aunt Sue, and then to Lindsay to stay at Nana and Grampa's. Nana's been in the hospital cuz of complications from back surgery in December, and she was pretty out of it the whole time, but the latest word is she's getting better so hurrah! Grampa and Aunt Sue are about the nicest people you'll ever meet, but damn, do they ever like to fuss over you. My parents are turning into them, it's scary.
But all in all it was a good trip. I've missed so much, growing up away from extended family. Hopefully I'll be keeping in contact with the cousins more now, and maybe the next time I see them won't be in another 9 years!

Crazy Go Nuts!
Sa leaves for Australia on Sunday. Natalie leaves for Scotland on Tuesday. This week has and will be full of going-away parties, which I have taken full advantage of. It has been so much fun, I forgot I'm not in junior high (hence Bring it On: All or Nothing). Today I found a way to volunteer at school without putting in hardly any effort, and I'll get a reference letter out of it. I'm a freakin genius.
Bev, Dan and I applied for East Campus Village. Next year is going to be sweet, sweet parties. Rock on!
